Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics
What’s the difference between a mural, statement wall and feature wall?
Think of them as three levels of custom design.
Feature walls are the simplest option — great for bold colour, pattern, colour blocking and simple painted elements. They're a way to make a wall stand out without a highly detailed design. 1-2 colours.
Statement walls take things a step further. They're custom compositions using larger painted elements, multiple colours, shapes and graphic details. They're perfect for businesses that want to incorporate existing brand colours, logos or visual elements without committing to a full mural.
Murals are the full custom experience — detailed artwork, illustration, storytelling and designs created specifically for your space.
Not sure which one fits your idea? That's totally fine. Tell me what you're imagining and we'll figure it out together.
What do you paint?
Murals, feature walls, and custom painted spaces. From bold commercial murals to a simple hit of colour at home, I create work that makes a space feel more like itself.
My 8+ experience in the painting industry means I am comfortable and knowledgable in both interior, exterior, residential and commercial spaces.
Where do you work?
I'm based in Calgary and work throughout Calgary and surrounding areas. I'm also open to projects elsewhere in Alberta. Travel fees may apply depending on the location.
Do you work with residential and commercial clients?
Absolutely. I work with homeowners, businesses, hospitality spaces, offices, designers, and other creative spaces. If you've got a wall that needs some personality, I'm interested.
Pricing & Booking
How much does it cost?
**Introductory pricing available while I build up my portfolio**
Every project is a little different, but I use square footage as a starting point for pricing:
- Feature walls - from $3/sq ft, with a $500 minimum. Up to 2 colours included.
- Statement walls - from $10/sq ft, with a $750 minimum. Up to 3 colours included.
- Murals - from $20/sq ft, with a $750 minimum. Up to 4 colours included.
Pricing also includes standard materials. Specialty materials, extensive surface preparation or unusual access requirements may be quoted separately.
Your final price depends on the size and complexity of the design, number of colours, surface condition, access and any additional prep or materials required.
Is there a minimum?
**Introductory pricing available while I build up my portfolio**
Yes. Feature wall projects have a $500 minimum.
This covers the time involved beyond actually painting the wall, such as consultation, design planning, preparation, travel, setup and cleanup. Even a smaller wall still takes time to bring a project from idea to finished space.
For statement walls and murals, the minimum is $750.
What's included?
For murals, your project includes consultation, custom design, 2 revisions, painting, standard materials, and clean-up.
Statement walls includes consultation, minimal design, 1 revision, standard materials, painting, and clean-up.
Feature walls include basic drywall repair where applicable, wall preparation, painting, clean-up, and standard materials.
Any extensive repairs, specialty materials, or additional work will be discussed and quoted separately.
Do you require a deposit?
Yep! A 50% deposit is required before I start the actual design work.
Creating a custom design takes time, and I want to make sure that time is reserved for confirmed projects. Your deposit secures your spot on the schedule and gets the design process underway.
The deposit is applied toward your final project total — it's not an extra fee.
How do I get a quote?
Start by filling out the inquiry form here and telling me a little about your space.
Photos and approximate measurements are especially helpful.
I'll review everything and get back to you with next steps.
Design
Do I need to have a design already?
Nope! You can come to me with a fully formed idea, a few inspiration images, or absolutely no idea at all. We’ll figure out the direction together and I’ll create a design that fits your space, style, and goals.
Do you create the design?
Yes. Custom mural projects include design services, with the concept developed specifically for your space.
How many revisions are included?
Murals includes 2 rounds of revisions so we can fine-tune the concept before it hits the wall.
Statement walls include 1 round of revision, as the design and concept is much less in depth than a mural.
Additional revisions or significant changes may be quoted separately.
Can I provide my own artwork?
Absolutely. If you already have artwork, an illustration, logo, pattern, or other design you'd like painted, send it my way.
I'll assess the artwork and space and let you know what's involved in translating it to the wall.
Can you copy someone else's artwork for my space?
No. I won't copy another artist's work or reproduce someone else's original artwork as my own. I can absolutely use your inspiration, references, colours, themes, and ideas to create something original and specific to your space.
The Walls
What surfaces can you paint?
Most properly prepared, paintable surfaces are fair game. Drywall, plaster, previously painted walls, and many commercial surfaces can work. If you're unsure about your surface, send me a photo and I'll take a look.
Is prep included?
Basic surface preparation is included with feature walls, including minor drywall repair where applicable. Larger repairs or extensive prep may require additional work and will be discussed with you before we begin.
For murals, surface preparation is assessed as part of the consultation and quote so we can make sure the wall is ready for the design.
Will my mural or wall be sealed?
Murals or statement walls may be finished with a protective sealer, depending on the location, surface, paint system, and how much durability the space requires. This can be especially useful for exterior, high-traffic, or commercial spaces.
Feature walls typically won't require a sealer, unless the space or finish calls for one. If a protective coating is recommended for your project, it will be discussed as part of the quote.
Can you repair damaged walls?
Yes, minor repairs (nail holes, dents/dings, tiny cracks, minor caulking touch ups) are no problem. For larger repairs or significant wall damage, I'll assess what's needed and include the additional work in your quote where appropriate.
Additional charges for repairs would include:
- large holes (roughly anything larger than a few inches)
- cracked or crumbling drywall
- water damage or staining
- extensive drywall patching
- skim coating an entire wall
- mold
- major sanding/prep
- extensive scraping
If your walls have extensive damage, major repairs, structural damage, or remediation issues, these will need to be addressed by the client before I begin work.
Can you paint exteriors?
Yes! Exterior murals are welcome. We'll consider the surface, location, weather exposure, and appropriate materials when planning the project. Exterior projects may have different preparation, access, and scheduling requirements.
The Process
How does it work?
Inquire → Design → Paint.
You tell me about your space, we figure out the direction and develop the design, then I bring it to life. You'll know what we're doing, what it costs, and what to expect before painting begins.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the project. A simple feature wall may take a day, while a larger or more detailed mural can take several days or longer. Your estimated timeline will be included with your quote.
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can! Smaller projects may have more flexibility, while larger murals and commercial projects are best booked several weeks or months ahead. If you have a specific deadline, let me know and I'll do my best to work with it.
How should I prepare for a mural or statement wall installation?
For interior or exterior projects, please clear the work area as much as possible and remove furniture, fragile, or valuable items. I'll take care of the painting prep and clean-up. If there's anything specific you need to do before I arrive, I'll let you know ahead of time.
After Care
How do I keep my new wall happy?
Let the paint fully cure before washing, scrubbing, or putting furniture directly against the surface. I'll provide any specific care instructions that apply to your project and materials.
What happens if it gets damaged?
Life happens. If your mural or feature wall gets damaged after completion, send me a photo and I'll let you know whether it can be touched up and what that would involve.
Do you offer touch-ups?
Yes. Minor touch-ups are available after a project is completed. If the damage is caused by something outside of the original workmanship, touch-ups may be subject to an additional fee.
