About the Artist

Hey.

My name is Andie, and I'm the owner and operator behind Rogue Lines Studio, a Calgary-based mural and feature wall studio.

I've spent over 8 years painting residential and commercial spaces, and even longer teaching myself how to make art. Along the way I've gotten a little obsessed with graphic design, patterns, woodworking, interior design, colour theory, and generally figuring out how to make things look cool.

For a long time, I treated my painting work and my artwork as two completely separate things. Then I had a bit of a wait a minute... moment:

Why am I treating art and painting as two separate things?

I'd painted enough white and beige walls for a lifetime (Chantilly Lace is my colour bane.. IYKYK). I want to take everything I've learned about paint, colour, surfaces and working in real spaces, and combine it with the part I actually can't get enough of: making stuff up and making it look good.

So, why "Rogue Lines"?

The name is partly a nod to my love of D&D and fantasy, and partly a pretty good description of what I'm trying to do. “Rogue” means doing things your own way... bending the rules, taking the unexpected path, and not being too concerned with what everyone else is doing.

Lines are a big part of how I make art. They draw your eye, create movement, and can tell a story without saying a word. I wanted to incorporate this into Rogue Lines.

I'm here to put a little more colour, personality and weirdness into the world, one wall at a time.

So, what do you get when you hire me?

You'll get the person who has an idea, designs the thing, knows how to actually get it onto the wall, and will show up with the paint excited to make your space a little more interesting.

More on my artwork below.

A little more about the artist behind the walls

I'm a self-taught artist, and Rogue Lines isn't the only place you'll find my work.

I recently illustrated a children's book, Nina and the Missing Night, and I've also illustrated a London Pubs guidebook alongside two fellow pub lovers (see more below!).

I still make my own artwork outside of Rogue Lines, and you can see more of that over at Andie Laf Designs.
